Can I buy life insurance while living abroad?

Being based overseas does not automatically prevent you from applying for life insurance. But availability is product- and country-specific.

What to consider

The insurer may need to consider your current country of residence, nationality, where you expect to live, occupation, age and health.

Before you proceed

Before completing an application, check that the insurer accepts applicants living in your location and that any intermediary has permission to arrange the product there.

Questions worth asking before you apply

Are you applying from your current country of residence? Could your citizenship or work arrangements change the available products? Does the insurer have restrictions on particular territories or occupations? Answering these points early can save time and help avoid selecting a policy that is unsuitable for your situation.

Living outside your passport country does not automatically mean life insurance is unavailable. What matters is finding an insurer and contract that can accept your circumstances, with accurate information throughout the application.
